The Build Up

Every day that passes I am more and more excited that I am actually carrying a baby in there. Its pretty miraculous. Some things I've been thinking about today are, what kind of books will I read my baby? Will I read a goodnight story every night? Will he/she have a Favorite and remember it throughout their life? My mom read to me and my sister ALOT growing up and we LOVED it. I think of the following books so FONDLY...

basically my favorite book of all time.

My mom did the best voices for this one

I'm not sure i'll be able to ever read this book aloud without crying! But i love it.

My mom also read to me and my sister some more scary books.... these were our favorites...
Come on, just look at the cover of this book. It scared us....

This was our "favorite" story in Der Struwwelpeter.. about a boy who sucked his thumb and was told if he didn't stop the tailor man would cut off his thumbs. So the boy continues... and IN FLYS THE RED'LEGGED MAN! and cuts off the boys thumbs. horrifying.

Sometimes, mom would whip out this book (or one of us would) and she'd start "It was a dark. and stormy night" and scream and cry me and my sister would! But we loved it... UNTIL...

There was a story with a particular picture that TERRIFIED me. to. death. My sister would open the book to the page of the picture and i'd CRY and be DONE with reading....
Scary isn't it? I uploaded it small because..it still scares me. AH!
but ANYWAY, I can't wait to read to my Chillins! :)

Oh my heck!!! That is so TERRIBLY funny Stef. I will laugh...and cry...for the rest of the day. And be thankful that my husband is home the rest of the week. I will have nightmares from the pictures alone!! BTW, you look beautiful!!

It's fun to watch/read about your enthusiasm for your baby. I also love 'The Giving Tree'. Mark read that book so much to Grant when he was younger he had it memorized! You're going to a great mommy :)

The Giving Tree is so classic, truly! As far as board books for little ones, you HAVE to go to a bookstore and look for Sandra Boynton...I hope I spelled that correctly... because her illustrations are so very precious. If I had actually owned my own home when Savannah was little I would have painted these characters in her nursery, she loved them so!

Ooo, those scary stories were terrifying to me as a child! Still scary. We stick to Corduroy and other friendly bears around this house. Reading to your babies is so much fun.

I was scared of the ET book that my dad bought. Sheesh. I don't know what I would have done had my parents tried to read me these ones.

I read "Goodnight, Moon" over and over to Meg, and "Where the Wild Things Are" to Josh. I think I still have parts of both memorized! You are going to be such a good mom!

Ok, so I sooo remember that picture in the scary book too! It scared the crap out of me but we read them anyway! The other "scary" books your mom read you were funny as crap!

Ha! Not sure if my mom read me any scary books, but we always watched scary movies. I can't imagine reading scary books like these to Taylor. She gets scared during the Little Mermaid when the birds attack Ursula at the end.. haha
