- Gus jumps up on people.
- Gus wants to lay on you, ALWAYS.
- Gus likes to drag blanket type objects around the house (towels, blankets, socks, shirts..)

- Gus. does. not. listen.
- Has brought a small (dead) snake into our house.
ELLIE:
- Ellie rubs her butt on my floors.
- Ellie growls and snarls if i try to grab something from her mouth that she doesn't want me to have.
- Ellie will eat your food with NO GUILT if you turn your back for a second.
- Me and Dusty believe she can't feel pain.. spanking her does NOTHING.
- If the front door is open, she will BOLT out the door.
- Constantly brings disgusting giant GRUBS into the house.
Oh and both dogs.. make my house stink. i HATE that most of all probably. I never noticed until i've been pregnant, its a distinct DOG smell that just makes me gag. Since their kennel is in my bedroom, It smells like their kennel in there. I just don't know what to do..
So how BABY-FRIENDLY does my house sound!? i need H. E. L. P.

Do you want suggestions or do you want the truth? (I'm just saying...)
I can't part with the stupid dogs as much as I want to... :|
LOL So you knew what I was getting at? :)
Either you just HAVE to train them...however possible, or just resign yourself now to being stressed for the next 2+ years.
If you decide to get a buzz collar for the dogs, let me know. We've found a brand we really like. And don't think about how it is mean to the dogs. Bottom line: No matter how much you love your dogs, you will love your baby more and anything you can do to protect your child, you will do in a heartbeat. So if your dogs get a little buzzing in the process...let 'em. They'll easily survive and will be better dogs for it.
Okay...epistle done. :)
Yeah Dana we have shock collar for Gus, but the problem is... we take it off of him to sleep, then in the morning we don't put it back on immediately and he always seems to do the worst things when its off. So we basically DEFINITELY need to be more strict with that!
We cleared Harvey out the house once we knew we were going to get pregnant.
... Which sounds kind of heartless. There were other reasons too, and fortunately we had family willing to "tend" him for a while, but in our little house it just never would have worked to have both a messy dog and a baby.
However, I know lots of families who make it work. Not sure how - if I come across some great advice, I'll send it to you!
If i had family willing to 'tend' to our dogs too, They'd be gone in a heartbeat haha. But i've been too honest in their badness so no one wants them ha!
You know we have a big hyper Boxer, Rocky. He is actually really well behaved with the baby and the house. The secret is the Dog Whisperer. Austin read his book and we have watched a few episodes on Hulu. His methods are different from other trainers in that they really work. Check it out.
I told you I would LOVE to "borrow" Ellie. ha ha Sorry, but I don't think I could deal with Gus either. :(
Mandi you are more than welcome to borrow (have) ellie ANY time u want :D
Oh Stefanie! I HATED my dogs when I was prego. I could see hair (that they shed) that I never noticed before, the stunk even worse, and everything they did, made me go crazy. I feel for ya. We got rid of our first dog when I was pregnant with my first. ( I know, cruel). And when I got pregnant with our second, our dog that we now have lived outside.... Good Luck! And congrats BTW.
Ok here's what happened with my "babies" that are now "dogs". They were spoiled rotten, but too got on my LAST nerve once I was pregnant. I suffered my whole pregnancy with them and their smells and hair, and was torn about what to do once Addie was born. Well I get home from the hospital and they suddenly infested our house with fleas. That was the last straw. They weren't jumpers or bad dogs... they stayed in, did their business outside, didn't bug us, but they were suddenly SO GROSS to me. So we sent them to the backyard, got our house sprayed, them a major flea treatment, and bought them a nice outdoor house which we fill with hay and blankets if its cold outside. For a while I tried to just use a baby gate and only let them in one room of the house, but they found ways around it, chewed up molding in the kitchen, were too destructive once contained to one area. I felt really horrible about them being outside, but couldn't have Addie on the floor with their grime/hair/slobber, poop feet, etc. They are still outside and now destroy our yard and fence. I really am having issues "loving" them right now. I NEVER want to get another dog. I'd probably work on making them outdoor dogs if you can't handle it (I definitely couldn't.)
Major training is what helped with Misha and we had to make sure that he got walks and attention from us every day or else he would be a little naughtier than usual. Go the dog whisperer route. he is GREAT! Misha is the BEST dog with Laney and was with Heath. We just had to show him he was bottom of the pack by not spoiling him. Treating him like a pet rather than a kid. There are still those days that I threaten him with being sent to the best Korean restaurant, but overall we love him! Good luck!
