Sunday

Today we took Little Man to church for stake conference. I wished I could say ' This was his first Sunday, look at his cute little outfit for his first day at church!'. But we took him last week and forgot to take pictures....so just pretend this was his first week ok? :)

I always feel like my pajamas feel cozier on Sundays, don't they? I think Deac feels the same way. He was so content sitting in my lap wearing just a soft little t-shirt.

Have i mentioned how much i LOVE this double-chinned little sweetie? He is Delish!

Oh, the disappointment!!

Supposedly, there was going to be the worst storm of all time today. I was terrified listening to the news about how BAD this storm was going to be. I was extremely anxious and snippy early this morning with Dusty because he hadn't cleaned out our hall storage closet for us to sit in if a tornado hit. So after some polite prodding, (yeah right) Dusty fixed 'er up real nice for us....

How cozy!

Just look at the placement of that airvent protecting us from the elements on the shelves!

I was kind of excited to pile into the closet when the sirens would go off later. Because i just KNEW they would, what with the news channels going insane with this HORRIBLE storm that was going to pass through. Turns out, it rained a little. And thats it. We didn't even get to use this Sa-Weet tornado shelter!! MAN!

Quirk

Sometimes when Deacon is really hungry, he tries to eat so fast he just is sucking and spitting the milk out everywhere and gets mad when i take the bottle from his mouth. I catch myself telling him No, no! Dont do that! Its most frustrating at 2am when im not expecting it and don't have a burp cloth. Poor thing doesn't have a clue.
In unrelated news, I made some yummy chicken sandwiches that have bacon on them last night and now my house REAKS of bacon. Whats the trick to get rid of the lingering smell!!??

Little Bud

My sweet little man is 2 weeks old now! Unfortunately, it's gone by really fast!! Deacon continues to be such a good boy. Pretty much only fussing when he gets his dipey changed, but immediately silences as soon as the new dipe is secured! He loves to be swaddled, and have his head rubbed:). His nickname already is 'Bud'...i'm not sure why but its just stuck and i don't remember how or why i started calling him that! I like to play the song on my blog for Deac, it puts a knot in my throat everytime!

One of my favorite parts of being a new mommy is just staring at my baby. What a miracle a baby is. I can't believe my body made this tiny human....hair? tastebuds? eyes? how did i do it?? Amazing. Looking at my baby my emotions range from blissful happiness to sheer terror. Sometimes i feel slight paranoia and intense worry. You know how people say Its scary having so much to lose? Boy do i know what they mean now!
I am so deeply, intensely, irrevocably in LOVE

Deacons Birthday

Deacon's delivery was induced and we were scheduled to go into Huntsville Hospital on Sunday evening at 6pm. All day we were so nervous and anxious and tried to keep ourselves really busy up until that point. Right before we left, Dusty made us a frozen pizza, which we both could barely eat much of because of butterflys in our stomachs. On our way to the hospital, we stopped at Rite Aid and bought some magazines to keep me busy in the delivery room. The woman working there asked when my baby was due and i loved saying "we are on our way to the hospital right now!" :). We headed to the hospital and waited in the waiting room for about an hour, playing Bejewled on my ipod. When they finally called us back, I got changed and hopped into my delivery bed. She started my IV which i absolutely hated. My nurse that evening was super friendly. She gave me something to start softening my cervix, and soon after i started having small contractions that lasted throughout the night. They started to get pretty painful so the nurse gave me some pain meds that made me feel REALLY GOOD and i fell asleep really quickly. The nurse had told me that Dr Callison would be in first thing in the morning to break my water, before the epidural. I kind of freaked because i have seen Birth Day on Discovery Health when the women scream at their water being broken!! So off to sleep we went..

In the morning, my pitocin was started and Dr Callison came in to see me. She calmed my fears about my water breaking and said it wouldn't hurt. She started to break my water and SPLASSSHH. "WOAH!" Dr Callison said. Apparently i had a TON of fluid in me! haha. It Must have been why i was measuring so big the whole time!!The experience of my water breaking was uncomfortable, but pretty neat! Dusty stood by my side and let me squeeze his hand to death while she did it haha. Very soon after my water was broken, my contractions got alot stronger. Dr Callison asked me if I wanted an epidural and I felt silly saying yes. I wasn't very far dialated, maybe 2 cm. But she told me to go ahead and say i wanted one if i planned on having one. So i said OK and the nurse put my name on the list to get one soon. Almost immediately, my contractions grew stronger, and stronger, and stronger to the point where with every one I quietly cried in pain and was shaking all over. Finally the anesthesiologist came and gave me the epidural which I found to be very uncomfortable but the relief was instant. Then i felt Wonderful!! My family came to visit sporatically throughout the day and me and Dusty dozed off a few times trying to get as much sleep in as we could before the baby came.

At around 5:30pm or so on Monday I was checked and was dialted to about a 5. Dr Callison predicted we'd have our baby sometime very late that evening maybe very early Tuesday morning. So me and Dusty tried to get comfortable. My family came back to visit one last time and while they were there, my contractions were starting to hurt again. I held my breath with each one. When the nurse came in I asked her if it was normal for me to feel the contractions even with the epidural. She asked if it HURT or if it was just alot of PRESSURE because pressure was normal. Again, i thought it hurt but didn't want to sound silly so I said 'ALOT of pressure'. So she gave me a little boost on my epidural and left. The boost did NOTHING. The contractions HURT dadgumit! I silently sobbed and tried to breath through each contraction as my family watched them on the moniter and reported to me when they were almost over. At about 6:30, Dr Callison came in to see how I was doing and noticed I was in pretty bad pain. She said she wanted to check me to which i told her I felt INTENSE pressure like I had to use the bathroom. After checking me she told me i was 9cm and 100% effaced! WOAH!! That went QUICK! She said we'd be havin a baby probably in the next hour or so! So my family was rushed out, and we began getting ready to push. I started crying because i was SO scared!! I was also dying of thirst and kept telling everyone how BAD i wanted a Sierra Mist after the baby was born. Dusty was a champ and stood by my side and acted exactly how I wanted him to. Dr Callison kept me super calm during pushing and told funny little stories in between contractions. After 40 minutes of pushing, Dr Callison needed to use the vacuum to get Deacon out, after trying once with no success, she said if we didn't get him out with the next contraction, she'd have to give me a c-section. So you bet i pushed with ALL my might, and out came Deacon at 8:10pm! I was AMAZED at how painless the delivery was. I was MORE amazed at the sight of my son being placed atop my chest. I cried and cried and kept saying "Oh my Goodness, Oh my Goodness!" and i held his little foot in my hand. Dusty videoed him being cleaned and weighed. I had a 2nd degree tear, so Dr Callison was stitching me up while Deacon was being weighed. I hated that part! Right after he was born, I had HORRIBLE shakes and still wanted that Sierra Mist SO bad. They handed Deacon to me and I could not control my arms from shaking and he felt like he weighed a million pounds so I had Dusty hold him while the nurse brought me some blankets and of course, my Sierra Mist which i DOWNED.

Soon after Deacon was born, my family came in to see him and my Mom held him and took some pictures. The nurse came to help me into a wheelchair to move to our recovery room but my legs were COMPLETELY useless and Dusty had to HOIST me into the chair. I kept feeling like he was going to drop me! The rest of the hospital stay was pretty enjoyable. Deacon had a bit of jaundice but is looking much much better now!

Recovery has been GREAT. I'm so grateful for my birth experience because i was SO nervous and scared about it. It honestly could not have gone any better. I'm so in love with my OB doctor too. She is amazing and i Highly recommend.

Deacon is a DOLL baby. I don't want to jinx anything, but he just might be the best baby in the universe! :) He sleeps a ton and we have to wake Him up at night to eat! We are so so in love and just adore watching him and trying to guess which parts of his take after which one of us. Mostly he looks EXACTLY like Dusty except he has my toes and ears haha. His favorite outfits to wear are Gowns, and Dusty thinks he looks most handsome wearing a beanie hat :).We suuuuure love him!

Welcome, Little Man.

Deacon Boyer Hess has arrived! He was born on March 29th at 8:10 pm, weighing 7lbs 5oz and 19 inches long. My labor and delivery went MARVELOUSLY and i couldn't have asked for a better experience. We are so head over heels in love with this little man. He is the BEST sleeper. Now if only he were as good of an eater as he is a sleeper! We're working on it :). He has a bit of jaundice still, but other than that, he is PERFECT in every single way. We just can not get enough....
