365 Days

Oh, Deacon. are you really an entire year old already? But, but..didn't I just have you? Didn't we just come home with you? How did the time go by so fast? **sniff**. The past year has been the best year. Since the day you were born, me and your daddy have asked each other "How did we ever get SO lucky?" We'll never know.. we sure don't deserve you. I love you so so SO much.
At ONE YEAR you...
  • pull up on Everything.
  • have taken several steps on your own!
  • love playing in your room and with Gus
  • can say "dada"
  • get bashful if smiled at by someone
  • love eating, there isn't really anything you don't like to eat.
  • wear size 18 month clothing, and weighs 24 lbs.
  • love to be read to
  • favorite song for me to sing to you, "Love is Spoken Here"

Found this little video of Deacon one year ago. Don't mind my extremely bloated face.

Sickies

We've been a bunch of sickies over at my house. First Dusty got hit with it. Then yesterday I got hit with it, went to the Dr today & was confirmed to have the flu. I can't recall ever having the flu before in my whole life. It sure wasn't fun. i tried to avoid getting Deacon sick by having my mother-in-law watch him, but unfortunately she brought him back to me this afternoon with a fever :(. He was so pitiful, just laying his hot head on my shoulder. He fell asleep on me, but when daddy came home it startled him awake and he let out the most pathetic sickly cries i'd ever heard come out of him. Its funny though, it was almost like the moment Angie told me he had a fever, my body knew to forget my flu and go into 'mommy mode' so i could take care of my baby. Last night while laying in bed feeling like death, Dusty came to bed after putting Deacon down, and we were chatting for a while when i told him i was a little hungry and wished we had some soup. Dusty got right out of bed and drove to the store, bought noodle soup, and made me a big bowl of it in the middle of the night. Isn't that sweet? I sure thought so. It sure is bad timing for the sickies, since this weekend is Deacon's 1st birthday party. hopefully everyone is well, or i'll have to reschedule the festivites.

Bedtime

why is remembering to update my blog so hard lately? it seems though, that whenever my heart is full, i tend to sit at my computer and want to blog about whatever it is that is making me happy. or sad. or annoyed. or whatever it is thats on my mind. and i love that about blogging. lets talk about Self Soothing. I've never ever been the type of mom (not that there is anything wrong with it) who wanted to let my baby 'cry it out'. I mean, i could see if he were not sleeping well, or if he were difficult to get down to sleep, but he isn't. I give him a night-time bottle-he falls asleep-i lay him down asleep. Thats how our routine goes every night. And so i was happy with that. But for some reason i feel he is getting too old (yeah 11 months is OLD apparently now) to need me to rock him and feed him his bottle. So that brings me to nap time today. I said to myself "SELF! Today is the day that you will TRY". And try i did! I popped in Baby Einstein's lullaby classics and laid Deacon in his crib with his favorite stuffed animal. He immediately scooted to the cribs side and pulled down the bumper and stared at me through the rails. I wanted to give in right then and pick my baby up, but i didn't. i laid on the floor by his crib, and within 10 minutes of him crawling around and fussing just a little, he laid his sweet little head down and fell asleep. Honestly, such a simple thing, but i felt SO proud! At what age do most moms teach their kids to put themselves to sleep? Am i the only mom who has rocked their baby to sleep every single night until 11 months? Its tough to listen to him whine knowing he just wants me. Really tough. He is such a good boy. . i could go on and on and on and on about this kid. he is perfect and gosh do i love him.
